Dear Warwick Labourites,
We hope you enjoyed last week’s events and that everything is going well. Last week we had two great events in our well-attended Lefty Lattes on the economy, and our Matthew Watson talk on alternatives to austerity, which proved very insightful. Following that, our exec members Amy, Mariam, Kathryn, Alex, Miguel and Luke got to meet Margaret Hodge MP with local MP Jim Cunningham, as you can see above. It’s hard to believe it’s almost reading week already, but before that here’s what’s coming up this week:
Thursday, 5pm, Terrace Bar: Lefty Lattes: Immigration: Out of control, or a political football?
This week’s Lefty Lattes tackles the thorny topic of immigration. Since the expansion of the European Union in 2005, the levels of immigration into Britain have increased markedly, leading to much political and media speculation. Do those who say low-skilled immigration harms working class communities have a point? Or is the whole debate underscored by an increasingly unpleasant xenophobia?
With the 2015 election fast approaching, we’d love to hear what you think Labour’s approach should be on this most contentious of issues, especially given the government’s policy on overseas students. Come along for a latte as Warwick Labour have our own kick of this particular political football…

That’s all for this week – just a quick note to say that for anyone interested, we will be entering a couple of teams into Politics Society’s Inter-Party five-a-side tournament! Anyone who fancies putting a few past the Tories should speak to Will Tucker or Matt Davies.
We hope to see you on Thursday!
All the best,
The Warwick Labour exec.
